October Update
As the school year is now in full swing, chapter activities and member involvement have taken off. Many chapters across our district have been participating in Halloween fairs and engaging in various school and community events. Our Community Outreach and Engagement committee will soon be recruiting members for our council—keep an eye out for more information on how to get involved!
With the Fall District Meeting (FDM) just around the corner, Akarsh and I are putting in extra effort to ensure all chapters on Long Island have a memorable and beneficial experience.
Outside of FBLA, October has been a productive month for me personally. I’ve submitted the majority of my college applications and am working on completing the remaining ones. I’ve also started preparing for the upcoming wrestling season, which kicks off in November, and I can’t wait to get back on the mat.
I’m truly excited for the months ahead and look forward to the chance to connect with all of you!

August Update
The month of August has been busy and super productive! As the school year begins, so do many new responsibilities, including sports, academics, other clubs, and college applications.
In terms of FBLA, there have been several exciting developments. First, the dates and location for FDM in my district have been finalized: Hofstra University on December 12th, 2024. We are still in the process of finalizing workshops and speakers, but I believe FDM will provide an opportunity for everyone in Districts 1N and 1S to connect with like-minded individuals and build bonds.
My Program of Work Committee (Community Outreach and Engagement) and the Fundraising Committee have put in a great deal of effort to ensure a successful year ahead, and we hope all chapters will participate! Be sure to check out our latest Instagram post for more information. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out via email at svp1n@nysfbla.org or through my FBLA Instagram @lochitha_nysfbla.
July Update
Greetings District 1N, I’m Lochitha Thambeliyagoda and I’m thrilled to be serving as our District State Vice President. I am a rising senior attending H Frank Carey High School from Long Island. I can’t wait to meet members and chapters within our district!
FBLA is more than just an organization, it has truly impacted me in so many ways. I remember my first school district officer installation dinner, for all the photos and during the dinner I kept my mask on the whole time. I was mortified to interact with people from my own school, people I was supposed to work with. I remember attending 2022 SLC by myself, and during the dance party I hid in a corner instead of networking with other members from NYS. FBLA has taught me skills such as networking and public speaking, if you were to tell 2022 me I’d be holding a state position I’d say your lying.
As SVP of our district I’m hoping to have a similar impact on students. I’m hoping to expand and grow this organization within schools all over our district, and increase participation within communities and competitions. Additionally I’d like chapters to participate in district events such as FDM and SDM, which I’ m currently working in. And finally taking part in Program of Work challenges for SLC will benefit chapters and communities.
It is with great honor and privilege that I take on the role of your FBLA State Vice President for District 1N. Together, I am confident that we can create an outstanding year filled with memorable experiences, meaningful connections, and abundant opportunities for all.
